The History of Sunday Lunch

May 01, 20251 min read

Growing up in the township of Eldorado Park in the 80s, meant being raised by the community. And for our founder, Leigh-Ann Brown that meant that Sundays were meant for family lunches. Sometimes faces at the lunch table included relatives and other times, friends of her parents with their families. In a house filled with people there was always laughter, familiar faces, great food and obviously music. Her introduction for a love of music was he fathers strong influence, he was the in-house curator when it came to setting the tone for the family lunch, soccer match after party and even the informal gathering at home. A regular trip to Look and Listen in Hillbrow on a Friday night was a must, to add to the already vast vinyl collection.

With this as the setting of her upbringing, Sunday Lunch was born. Each event is carefully curated around food, family, friends, fellowship and what we all have in common, a deep love for soulful heartfelt, music. From Betty Wright to Blue Magic to Sybil and Crystal Waters all the way to Biggie Small and Tupac not forgetting the deep house and 90s club sets brought to you by our amazing lineup of resident and guest DJs. Venues are carefully selected by Leigh-Ann who goes to the extent of selecting menus based on sharing and family style lunches.

Sunday Lunch is not just an event its a Movement and a way of honouring the legacy of her fathers love for music and community.
